My Love Is My Love
by Delroy Nesta Williams
My love is only my love
But it is always being questioned
Just because it doesn't conform
To your own definition
My love doesn't see colour
But my love understands
That because of its colour,
It won't be loved the same
And because of its colour,
You will always second guess its genuineness
And you will never be the one to accept
With open arms
Because when my forefathers offered up my love
You preferred to bears arms
Sell us out or kill us off
Still my love has survived
And now it has chosen to swallow it's pride
Burying it alive
In the bowels of nothingness
Because my love though aware of the past
That built its strong foundation
Isn't limited to just history
And doesn't want its love for you to be tainted
But rather to be true
Like how the sky makes the ocean appear to be blue
My love is like that fish that swims
The bird that flies
It just wants to be free to be
Roam from flower to flower
Sucking up nectar like a bee
And still provide you with its perfect honey
But be careful my love will sting
If you continue to mistreat it
And your body will swell
Something like an allergic reaction
But my love also gives massages
After a long hard day at the office
And sometimes my love wants a pillow fight
Before slipping into the bed to make love all night
You see my love can't be defined
It's still genuine, not at all refined
Because my love has traveled from the mothered land
And built a home in a borrowed land
Across deep blue seas and tousled oceans
And my love will continue to progress
Will see beyond your shortsightedness
A lot further than the horizon
That you’ve preconceived to keep me trapped at the seashore
Because I want my feet to get wet
I want to feel the sea breeze through my hair
Taste the salt on my tongue
And when all is said and done
If the sails of my vessel are torn by rough winds
And my love capsized by a tsunami-sized wave
You can be sure that my love will still endure
Because my love knows no other way
Because my love is a survivor

Just smile

Just smile
By Delroy Nesta Williams
I want a smile
But not just any smile,
I want a smile so wide that I can see all your pearly whites.
A smile so bright that not even the sun can outshine it, kind of smile.
I want the it’s so great to see you; it’s been way too long kind of smile,
The smile that makes you feel oh so warm inside…
That smile, oh that smile that can put hope in a terminally ill patient’s life…
The smile that only a mother can give to her child kind of smile.
I want the Sunday morning, God has abundantly blessed me smile.
The it’s been a rough day but everything will be okay smile.
The thank you it’s Christmas dinner time type of smile.
The thank you I passed my exams with an A,
So I don’t have to retake this class kind of smile.
The smile that says I can’t believe that just happened to me kind of smile.
The he kissed me unexpectedly kind of smile,
The one that sends tingles up my spine, kind of smile.
I want a smile that says, it’s so good to see you,
So now you go on and smile at the rest of the world
So they can fall in love with your smile too kind of smile…
Honestly, I just want the world to smile.

Break the Silence - help our children
Break the Silence
By Delroy Nesta Williams
You commit murder when you keep silent
Every time you see injustice and don’t speak
When you know that your little girl
Is forced to rock on a grown man’s cock
But you turn a blind eye
And pretend not to see
Because the man brings in the pay check
And pays for your hair and your nails
So instead you pave the way to your daughter’s grave
When you pretend to not hear the screams
Or notice that every night he leaves your bed
And goes into the next bedroom instead
You know what’s going on
But you prefer to play dumb
You’re just perpetuating the crime
Adding grime to the slime
Just because you think you can’t get another man
So you give him the upper hand
Even if it means that your flesh and blood
Is covered in his stench and her own blood
Because he forced her hymen,
Her body isn’t prepared for the private parts of grown men.
But you gotta have the fancy dresses
And flaunt to all your family and friends
While your daughter rots inside
Her soul fading away to its end
You’re just as guilty as the man
How can you look into his eyes
Tell yourself that you love him
And allow him to rape your kin
So while he stains the youthful days of your child
You add insult to injury
How do you look into her eyes
And not see the pain
How can you see her soul
And not recognize the stains
That his filthy touch has left
If you won’t protect yourself
At least protect your blood
How can you allow this go on?
This isn’t what was meant
By turning the other cheek
Ordering your daughter to be submissive and meek
So you commit the murder of your very own daughter
Killing her soul by the minute and the hour
Death isn’t only when breath leaves your corpse
Death is when you turn a blind eye
And show the one you should love
That her peace of mind, you sold and he bought…

Hater
I was bored at work and started to write, this is what i came up with, fresh from my thoughts:
Hater
By Delroy Nesta Williams
They will call me a hater
Cuz I don’t dance to the beat
Of their drum machines
I don’t need to be at every sewo
And sing songs with lyrics
Of people more clueless than me
I don’t need to be copycat “stars”
Who pretend to have it made,
But when the truth comes out
They’re so much more than fake!
With weaves, press on nails, plastic surgeries
Fake teeth and jewelry
Just why all the drudgery
To be a replica
Of a Nicki Minaj
Who is clearly just a mirage!
Fabricated to mislead us all
And wishing to be anything close to real
I truly don’t see the big deal
How they spend all their time
Trying to make it
When they’re only faking it
I’m sorry for those little girls
Who dream of one day being Nicki
The beautiful black “Barbie”
But there’s nothing more tragic
Than a black woman covered in plastic
They will call me a hater
Cuz I don’t linger on the streets
With nothing to do but
Holla at every female that passes
Sizing up their breasts and asses
Or laugh at every foul-smelling, misdirected vagrant.
They’re so misguided, it’s blatant!
But they can’t see it
Too busy caught up in the bling
That they don’t see this things
That the very beggar they mock
Is someone who was once in the same shoes as them
But who took a mis-step.
So instead of giving a helping hand
They laugh as much as they can
Not knowing how easy it is
To switch places and end up in the shoes
Of the man who smells like doo-doo
But they will call me a hater
cuz I’m not a trend
I see more pleasure in being an individual
I’m tired of their pretence
I look like no one else
I’m just happy to be myself
But they look all the same
So I can’t tell the difference
Who is real and who’s synthetic
Yet, they call me pathetic
But if I call them out
And expose their flaws
Suddenly I’m the hater
But they’re just conformists
Who sell out for “swag”
And pretend to be bad
Cuz gangsters get more girls
And the Nerd look is in
So that’s what they gonna do
Even if they don’t know 1 + 1 = 2
And they have no idea
That they just selling themselves short
Boys, girls, it’s time to grow up
But I will tell them plain
They’re just a part of the game
And they are no different
Being led to their doom
And I’m so glad there’s no more room
In this “IN” crowd
Cuz I can’t be a part of this
Where I can’t be myself
Just let me be me
Let me be different
Cuz in the end
All that’s left
Is my difference!
I could go on and on
Cuz rambling is fun
But I gotta go now
I hope you enjoyed my poem
It wasn’t meant to hurt or offend
I just needed to get a few things of my chest
So now that it’s said and done
Peace out my people, I’m gone!

This is just a video clipping that I took of Keegan Maharaj during the Issues and Ideas (InI) session/workshop at the Nature Island Literary Festival...
No need for too much talk or anything, just listen to the young man and you are bound to feel the vibe that was emanating throughout the three days at the "little" festival of WORD, SOUND and POWER...
